The Perfect 10

     1. Beta Alanine:

Where it’s found: Beta-Alanine is a non-essential amino acid most commonly found in protein rich foods such as chicken, beef, and fish. It is the only naturally occurring beta-amino acid.

What it does:

  • Reduces exercise-induced fatigue
  • Improves anaerobic exercise capacity
  • Increases potential workload

How it benefits you: Supplementing with Beta Alanine will allow you to train harder and longer ultimately helping you achieve your fitness goals faster!

Side Note: A harmless side effect of beta-alanine supplementation is a mild prickling, itching, or tingling of the skin. Activity typically helps alleviate this.

     2. L-Arginine HCl:

Where it's found: L-arginine is a chemical building block called an "amino acid." It is obtained from the diet and is necessary for the body to make proteins. L-arginine is found in red meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products.

What it does:

  • Arginine is one of the main amino acids that aid in the processing of creatine (Note: See benefits of creatine)
  • Arginine aids in opening/widening your blood vessels and decreasing vascular resistance allowing oxygen and nutrients to flow more freely to your muscles during your workouts
  • Improves immune function, detoxification, and brain focus
  • Works as a pre courser to convert to nitric oxide – Which supports blood flow and oxygen to skeletal muscle

How it benefits you: Supplementing with Arginine will allow your muscles to have more blood, oxygen, nutrients flowing to your muscles during a workout allow your body to endure a more intense workout.

     3. Betaine:

Where it's found: Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is a compound found in plants like beets.

What it does:

  • Improves muscle endurance
  • Increases strength
  • Increases growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 production in response to acute exercise

How it benefits you: Betaine is great for helping your body gain muscle and lose fat because of its role in protein synthesis within the body.

Side Note: Choline helps with your body’s processing of betaine. (You can find both in Joeboost)

     4. Creatine Monohydrate:

Where it's found: Creatine is a naturally-occurring amino acid (protein building block) that's found in meat and fish, and also made by the human body in the liver, kidneys, and pancreas. It is converted into creatine phosphate or phosphocreatine and stored in the muscles, where it is used for energy.

What it does:

  • Helps to regenerate a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is your body's main source of energy
  • Acts as a quick energy source for activities that require quick bursts of energy such as strength training/weight lifting and sprinting
  • Creatine has a cell expanding property which “volumizes” cells which help you achieve a fuller, “pumped” look

How it benefits you: Supplementing with creatine can increase endurance, energy, performance, and muscle mass by allowing amino acids in your body needed to make creatine readily available in surplus amounts for other anabolic functions. This means that arginine, glycine, and methionine are available for other functions since creatine is derived from these non-essential amino acids.

     5. Ginseng:

Where it's found: Ginseng is a slow growing plant with a fleshy root system found primarily in North America and east Asia.

What it does:

  • Improve thinking, concentration, memory and physical endurance
  • Boost energy
  • Reduce stress and promote relaxation
  • Treat fatigue
  • Promote healthy sex drive

How it benefits you: Ginseng helps reduce stress physically with its anti-inflammatory properties and mentally with its stress reducing characteristics helping to focus during workouts and allowing you to push harder. Ginseng has established itself as a leading performance enhancment ingredient with many benefits.

     6. Beet Root Extract:

Where it's found: Beet root extract comes from the root of beet plants found in nature.

What it does:

  • Beet root extract helps relax and dilate our blood vessels allowing more blood, oxygen, nutrients to flow towards muscle tissue during work outs
  • Contains natural occurring nitrates which convert to nitrate oxide in your body
  • Has been found to increase muscle power by up to 13%, and endurance by up to 16% in human trials
  • Can lower blood pressure
  • Contains rich anti-oxidants that fight muscle inflammation

How it benefits you: Having more blood, oxygen and nutrients flowing to your muscles during a workout allows your body to endure a more intense workout, and in the long term helps stimulate further muscle growth and protein synthesis. In the case of building muscle, more is better!

     7. Choline:

Where it’s found: Choline is found in a wide variety of foods. Egg yolks are the most concentrated source of choline in the American diet.

What it does:

  • Choline is an essential nutrient that can increase both muscle strength, stamina, and brain function
  • Choline plays a significant part in the formation of a neurotransmitter acetylcholine

How it benefits you: Acetylcholine is an important neurotransmitter that your body uses to signal muscle contractions. By providing your nervous system with an adequate supply of  acetycholine, you can produce stronger muscle contractions. It can also help to enhance cognitive function, boost memory and increase mental focus during workouts eliminating that “brain fog” that can creep in from time to time so you can laser focus on your reps.

     8. Grape seed extract:

What it does:

  • Research shows that when supplemented with at least 1.5g of Arginine, Grape Seed Extract helps drastically decrease neuromuscular fatigue by up to 22% which allows you to endure even more intense workouts resulting in higher output and maximum gains
  • Helps activate Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a nucleotide- ATP transports chemical energy within cells for Increased metabolism
  • Grape Seed Extract is rich in antioxidants which help eliminate free radicals in your body and may help reduce pain in your muscles and joints

Side Note: Grape Seed Extract has a powerful antioxidant Reservatrol which inhibits aromitaze. Aromitaze is the enzyme that converts natural testosterone to estrogen.

     9. L-Theanine:

Where it's found: Theanine is an amino acid found primarily in tea, when paired with caffeine, provides several cognitive benefits.

What it does:

  • Reduces the effects of mental and physical stress
  • Increases the production of nitric oxide, which improves blood flow
  • Improves alertness, focus, attention, memory, mental task performance, and mood

How it benefits you: Theanine will help smooth out the energy provided by the caffeine from coffee. Trace amounts can drastically reduces side effects such as “jitters” from caffeine. This provides mental focus during your workouts allowing you to concentrate on each muscle contraction for better results, without the crash afterward.

     10. B12:

Where it’s found: Nutrients commonly found in animal foods, like meat, fish, dairy, and eggs.

What it does:

  • Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient for our red blood cells, nerve function, and is integral for DNA synthesis in our bodies' cells-Vitamin B12 assists your body in converting carbohydrates into glucose which your body uses for energy
  • Mood Enhancer
  • Reduces adrenal fatigue

How it benefits you: Vitamin B12 will help you efficiently make glucose from carbohydrates producing the necessary energy to have a more intense workout allowing your body to achieve greater results. It also works well when supplemented with caffeine to help reduce adrenal fatigue- a neutrally occurring side effect of prolonged caffeine use.
